Webinar: Breaking the Barriers: Gambling and the Correctional System

Description: According to (Turner et al 2017) the prevalence rates of problem gambling in the adult correctional population are 5 – 10 times higher that hose found in the general population.

Lack of screening, awareness, higher rates of co-occurring disorders and a lack of in-prison resources can contribute to these rates.

This webinar will include discussion about problem gambling in general – the spectrum from recreational to disordered, the warning signs and risk factors of disordered gambling and the impact gambling disorder has on incarnated individuals. Resources and recovery supports will be presented as will personal experiences.

 

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the continuum of gambling from recreational to disordered gambling.
  • List three questions that will elicit warning signs of gambling problems.
  • Identify the differences between gambling disorders and substance use.
  • Raise awareness of gambling disorders are it pertains to the correctional system.
